WELCOME

Do you know how powerful you are… I mean, really powerful? If you’re on this site then you, most likely, recognize that you’re in need of healing – whether it’s healing of your mind, body or spirit.

Perhaps you aren’t sure where to start or you need some encouragement along the way.

One of the worst lies we’ve been told, is that we’re helpless. The systems of the world would have us believe that because of this “helplessness”, we must rely on the world to tell us how to live.

But what if there’s a better way? Perhaps you’ve found you need more than this world has to offer.

The truth is that our bodies are created with the ability to heal. Our cells are made to keep sickness and disease at bay. Our minds are made to produce thoughts that trigger healthy emotions. And, last but not least, our spirits are made to reflect the light of our Creator, as well as to connect with GOD and others.

For it is GOD who is the Ultimate Consultant for every healing journey!

Each one of us is on a healing journey. Together, we will discover solutions that, when applied, will help us get well, stay well, and live well.

As a son, or daughter of the Most High – You. Are. Powerful – much more powerful than you’ve been led to believe! This power comes directly from the Creator and it is He who guides us into all truth.

Are you ready to become pro-active in your own health and wellness? Are you ready to join me on this healing journey?

If you’ve answered, “yes”, then welcome and shalom to you!

“Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.” 3 John 1:2

NATURAL WAYS TO BOOST SEROTONIN

How are you doing? I mean, really, how are you doing? If you’ve noticed you’re leaning into a more depressive state, then please know that you’re not alone.

Modern living, with all the pressure that comes with it, has taken us further away from a health-centric lifestyle and driven us more towards tech, isolation, and unhealthy attempts to cope.

IMPORTANCE OF THE GUT-BRAIN AXIS

But before you run to an MD for an anti-depressant, let’s talk about the gut-brain axis.

Pubmed.gov states, “The gut-brain axis (GBA) consists of bidirectional communication between the central and the enteric nervous system, linking emotional and cognitive centers of the brain with peripheral intestinal functions.” (1)

A direct link exists between the health of the gut (often called the “second brain”) and our moods, brain function, and immune system.

Also, according to pubmed.gov, “The gut microbiota – the trillions of bacteria that reside within the gastrointestinal tract – has been found to not only be an essential component (of) immune and metabolic health, but also seems to influence development and diseases of the enteric and central nervous system, including motility disorders, behavioral disorders, neurodegenerative disease, cerebrovascular accidents, and neuroimmune-mediated disorders.” (2)

That’s a lot of (dis) orders and (dis) eases!

When gut bacteria are depleted, the brain suffers.

The food we eat affects physical health and mental and emotional health – more proof of the close connection between the gut and brain.

It’s also clear that certain thoughts, or emotions, affect gastro functions. Have you ever had a “gut feeling”? Well, you’re not the only one.

This appropriate name is no coincidence as we do “feel” with our guts. Stress responses, within the brain, signal hormones and neurotransmitters to go into action. They travel through the gut-brain axis, thus creating gut hypersensitivity.

Which of us hasn’t had “butterflies”, in our stomach, due to nervousness or lost our appetite during a time of grief? Even mainstream medicine admits that excessive worry, and anxiety, play a role in inflammatory bowel diseases and can cause stomach ulcers.

THE “FEEL GOOD” CHEMICAL

Up to 95% of the serotonin is made in the gut. Serotonin is popularly known as the “feel good” chemical.

Most prescription-strength anti-depressants attempt to control serotonin function within the brain. This, however, is an extremely short-sided approach since very little serotonin is produced within the brain.

Gut health is an integral part of brain health. It plays a role in mental and emotional health. This includes mood regulation. It should, at least, be considered when attempting to aid depression sufferers.

NATURAL WAYS TO BOOST SEROTONIN

Here are some suggestions for those interested in boosting serotonin production, naturally.

 – Increase B Vitamins. Vitamins B1, B3, B6, and B9 play a significant role in serotonin function. These B vitamins help convert tryptophan into serotonin. Think about how happy, and contented you feel, after a turkey (full of the amino acid, tryptophan) dinner. You can thank the tryptophan-boosted serotonin levels, and whoever made the meal, for that!

When B vitamin intake is reduced, serotonin function and availability decreases.

– Increase Folate intake. A clear connection exists between mood swings and a lack of folate. Depression is commonly seen in those with this deficiency. Studies have proven a strong correlation between folate deficiency and depression, among other mental symptoms.

Folic acid should be avoided as it is a synthetic form of folic acid.

Folate-rich foods include bananas, oranges, brussels sprouts, kidney beans, romaine lettuce, avocadoes, mustard greens, spinach asparagus, and beef liver.

– Increase Omega 3 fatty acid intake. Omega-3 fatty acids docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) are essential to serotonin production. DHA is necessary for brain development and EPA assists with behavior and mood.

Dr. Parris M. Kidd, of the University of Berkeley, CA, states the following, “In double-blind, randomized, controlled trials, DHA and EPA combinations have been shown to benefit attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (AD/HD), autism, dyspraxia, dyslexia, and aggression. For the affective disorders, meta-analyses confirm benefits in major depressive disorder (MDD) and bipolar disorder, with promising results in schizophrenia and initial benefit for borderline personality disorder.” (3)

When choosing an Omega 3 supplement, purchase “cold-pressed”. Products created using a heating method will produce free radicals in the body. This causes inflammation and a possible autoimmune response – doing more harm than good.

Omega 3 fatty acid-rich foods include mackerel, salmon, anchovies, flax seed, walnuts, chia seeds, pasture-raised eggs, spinach, brussels sprouts, meat and dairy from grass-fed animals.

– Exercise. Exercising, consistently, may play a role in serotonin production. According to livestrong.com, “One 2014 study in the European Journal of Psychology and Educational Studies found that even mild to moderate levels of exercise, two to three times a week, can reduce symptoms of depression, though the quantities of blood level serotonin tested in a small sample size of individuals were not found to be highly significant.” (4)

At the very least, moving our bodies helps keep us fit and feeling well.

– Spend time outdoors in nature and sunlight. Light therapy has become a popular way to help sufferers of Seasonal Affective disorder (SAD). It aids in Vitamin D production. When Vitamin D is low, serotonin levels will not be optimal. This can be applied to those who suffer from non-seasonal affective disorder, as well as depression.

If you’re interested in light therapy, safely expose yourself to the sun, or a light box, often.

– Get enough sleep. Sleep deprivation negatively impacts serotonin pathways. Likewise, serotonin plays a major role in maintaining proper sleep patterns. Getting a solid 8 hours, of sleep, every night ought to be the goal.

Proper sleep hygiene is a must for serotonin production, as well as for overall health.

– Work on Stellar Gut Health. One probiotic strain, Lactobacillus, increases serotonin. Supplementing with probiotics, and digestive enzymes, eating probiotic-laced foods, and avoiding pharmaceutical antibiotics help ensure that the number of good bacteria, in the gut, remains at an optimal level.

Click on this link to learn about natural antibiotics: https://shalomtotalwellness.com/2022/09/05/top-5-natural-antibiotics/

The healthier our guts are, the more able they will be to aid in serotonin production.

– Think positively! Serotonin levels affect moods and moods affect serotonin levels. This goes both ways. There is a direct link between the quality of our thought life and our moods. The more we allow negativity to invade our lives, the more our inner thought lives will suffer.

Meditate on things that fall into the Philippians 4:8 category and protect your eye and ear gates.

– Choose a Life of Shalom. Stress increases cortisol levels and decreases serotonin. It can’t always be avoided. Life tends to happen. This includes unpleasant things that are beyond our control. However, we can control how we choose to respond to those things.

Rather than living, in reaction, respond with shalom. We can roll our cares onto Yeshua (Jesus), trusting Him to walk us through all our days…the good, the bad, and the ugly.

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Jesus in Matthew 11:28 (KJV)

Difficult seasons, of life, exist. Depression is real. But you can be the boss of your thoughts and feelings!

Boosting serotonin levels using natural methods does take a bit of purposefulness. However, it’s well worth the effort.

You’re well worth the effort AND more powerful than you may realize!

I pray this was encouraging to you. May GOD give you the wisdom, and guidance you need for your mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual health.

Shalom to you,

“Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.” 3 John 1:2

Divine Reset 2024-25: Shame into Praise

There’s been a significant spiritual shift, recently. Does anyone else feel it? Many have been waiting for, and praying into this shift, for years. You’re sick of hearing words like “breakthrough” and “suddenly”.

You’re tired and not sure how much more you can take.

But listen: Your circumstances may not have changed but the load you’re carrying is feeling lighter. Hope is being infused into the faithful, the ones who didn’t quit despite how things looked.

Yeshua (Jesus) is stepping into the places where you, and your family, have so desperately needed healing and direction. Encouragement is here now, and more is on the way.

He’s bringing recompense to those who suffered rejection, and harm, at the hands of “friends”, “family”, and “church”. This isn’t a statement of vengeance against them. It’s a statement for you, and you, only.

He saw it all. He heard it all. He’s stepping in.

Enough is enough.

Many are carrying shame because of circumstances and how others have treated them. This shouldn’t be. And it will no longer be. Yeshua (Jesus) is healing the broken places and speaking truth into you even now.

His Truth needs no permission to be. It simply is. The scales of the past season are being removed and the new is showing thru in brilliant display.

So much time has passed that you wondered if you’d ever come back. Well, you are – not in your own strength but in the strength of the One who formed you in your mother’s womb.

He knows how long it’s been and is battling on your behalf to get things right.

They might be done with you, but Yeshua isn’t done with you. NO ONE is strong enough to stop what He has planned for you and your family.

This isn’t about gaining recognize in worldly, or even ministry circles. GOD knows the heart of those whose main goal is to climb a ladder to be heard or seen. That isn’t for you.

This time of isolation, and what feels like a set-back, brought you into a deeper alignment with the Father’s heart. Only He knows what’s in store for you. But I can tell you this – IT’S GONNA BE GOOD!

More is Coming. More is Coming. More is Coming.

3 Ways to Get Your Heart Ready for the More:

Stay Faithful to Him.

Don’t Give into Distraction or Worry.

Praise Him, Ahead of Time, For the Good Things Coming

A day is coming when you’ll look back, in awe, and say, “Wow, HE did it!” That day is coming sooner than you think.

But, even now, He’s moving. He’s doing. He’s speaking. He’s refining. He’s healing. He’s saving. He’s delivering. He’s guiding. He’s repositioning.

This isn’t your doing. It isn’t their doing. It’s HIS doing.

He’s peeling away the layers of pain.

He’s removing shame and turning it into praise! Hallelujah!

I pray this word of encouragement was beneficial to you. During these strange days, please know that you aren’t alone. Ever.

Shalom to you all,

“Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.” 3 John 1:2

Lamb of GOD Passover Celebration

Spring is an exciting time for a Yeshua follower! Passover followed, by the Feast of Unleavened Bread, provides ample opportunity to draw closer to our Messiah, as well as to our families.

I love walking out a faith that requires physical, do-able displays like getting the leaven out of our homes, eating unleavened bread, and getting the table ready.

These physical actions solidify, and mirror, the work in our hearts to get rid of anything that is not of GOD and seek more of our Messiah.

It is all too easy, however, to get caught up in traditions of men rather than biblical instruction. In an attempt to get everything “right”, we often get tripped up by things that are not required by our Heavenly Father.

This truly is the antithesis of the shalom that HE provides when we humbly seek Him and celebrate His Ways with His Holy Spirit as our guide. It is my desire to encourage you to keep things simple and keep the main thing (Yeshua) the main thing.

We must not be believers in intellect only or take on the burden of extra-biblical instruction. For there are times when the Holy Spirit will override our minds. We must speak Spirit. For GOD seeks those who would come to Him with faith like a child. (see Matthew 18:1-5)

The rabbinic seders, of today, were not commanded by YHWH. The actual instructions, for a Passover celebration (followed by the Feast of Unleavened Bread) are very simple. Please read Exodus 12, Leviticus 23, and other Bible passages and do as the Holy Spirit leads you according to the Word of GOD.

“Therefore, purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, since you truly are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us. Therefore, let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.” – 1 Corinthians 5:7-8

Below, is a simple, but meaningful, Passover Service that I have written. Feel free to download it and/or print it out. There are a few supplies that you will need to gather ahead of time, and it is encouraged to share in a meal, after this service has been completed.

I pray that you will slow down this Passover season. Simplify your preparations and keep them in accordance with how scripture instructs. May we turn to Yeshua, with our whole hearts, as we make room for Him at our tables.

Shalom to you,

WHERE IS GOD IN TIMES OF SUFFERING ?

I take the topic of health personally, very personally. Because, you see, I have been on the other end of an all-out onslaught to stop, maim, and kill me for my entire life. One of the main weapons used against me was physical illness, disease, and false approaches to “health”.

My friends are my family and when they’re sick, I can feel it. When my husband and daughter are sick, I feel it. It’s no wonder I decided to become a doctor of natural medicine. I had to. I couldn’t find the right doctor for me so I became one.

I view things differently – it’s life and death and the fight goes beyond people.

It’s principalities. It’s spiritual. It’s personal.

Maybe you can imagine my irritation upon realizing that my family is now fighting what has been termed “C-V” (for the second time). Yeah, not happy. We take all the right supplements and vitamins. We eat biblically clean. We nebulize and diffuse all the things. We’ve already been thru a round of this junk, last year, so I thought we were beyond it.

It just goes to show you how aggressive this illness is. How pointed it is. How it can target anyone.

It’s principalities. It’s spiritual. It’s personal.

So we keep taking the right supplements and vitamins. We’re still nebulizing and diffusing all the things. I have plans. I have back up plans – all for “just in case”. Some of it is a waiting game. It’s all being bathed in prayer.

And as the world is full of bad news, loved ones clinging to life…and some losing theirs, wars, rumors of wars, increased hatred among people, etc. – the literal war for our lives increases. Everyone is being affected, deeply, by one thing or another. One has to wonder where GOD is in all of it.

So, I asked. Yeah, I asked Yeshua (Jesus) this morning where He was in all of it. I know what the Bible says and I believe it. But I still needed to hear from Him.

And I found Him……sitting down on the beach of a lake. He was skipping rocks into the water. It wasn’t for sport or fun. He was waiting. And He seemed irritated. I sat down beside Him. We sat in silence, together, as I watched Him skipping the rocks over and into the water.

He’s really good at it. Each rock stayed above the water for a long time before being pulled down by their weight. A feat that I tried, as a child, but never quite succeeded at – not consistently anyways.

The sky was ablaze with pinks, and purples, as the sun set low in the distance. He had been here a long time. Waiting. Irritated. His brow furrowed. His hand clinched as He hurled each rock into the lake.“

This had to happen,“ He said, his gaze remained on the water. And He just kept skipping those rocks in. I dare not ask why this had to happen but I knew that He was referring to what we were all going thru, on a personal scale as well as world-wide. It wasn’t just about me or my family.

Of course, He knew that I was wondering “why”, even though I didn’t ask. He answered me: “It’s principalities.”

Then He forcefully skipped a rock into the lake.

“It’s spiritual.” Another rock went in.

“It’s personal.” Another rock hurled in.

He stopped skipping rocks at that point. In this solemn understanding, we sat. For the very battle I had fought all of my life – with all the feelings attached – were His feelings in this moment.

And He had to keep waiting for now. We all do. And it’s hard. It’s irritating.

I thought of how He whittled that tree branch into a whip, that one time. While He whittled, He waited. And that’s where we are right now – in that moment of tension, that moment of wait, of irritation.

He turned to me. Our eyes met. “Thank you for sitting with me.”He was grateful for MY company. Mine?

He offered no promises of things turning out okay. That all seems a bit trite now anyways, don’t you think.

But He said this:“I’m with you, always.”

“Oh hey (yes, Yeshua said “hey”) it’s your birthday today. I’m sorry, but you gift is going to be late this year.” Then He turned His gaze back to the lake and began skipping rocks again.

“Seek the Lord while He may be found, Call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; Let him return to the Lord, and He will have mercy on him; And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon.

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.

“For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, and do not return there, but water the earth, and make it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void,

But it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.“ For you shall go out with joy, and be led out with peace; The mountains and the hills shall break forth into singing before you, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands. Instead of the thorn shall come up the cypress tree, and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree; and it shall be to the Lord for a name,

For an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.” — Isaiah 55:6-13

If you are currently enduring a time of suffering, please know that you are NOT alone. GOD IS with you. He is guiding you, and loving you, thru it all.

Shalom to you,

From Stressed to Shalom

Have you ever stopped to think about how much our lives have changed in the last 30…20…or even 10 years? This is something that has been coming up more and more in conversations with my husband…not just because we’re getting older (we ARE but that’s besides the point *ehem) but also because, as children of the 80’s and 90’s, we remember what life was like before smart phones, the internet, and amazon prime. I am not totally against technology as it has provided a degree of convenience to modern day living. But let’s face it – things were simpler “back in the day”.

On top of that, the different seasons of life are something that none of us can escape from. College, career, parenting littles, raising teens, caring for elderly parents, etc – each season brings with it a new challenge and demands our attention.

I haven’t even mentioned bills, schooling, juggling career and housework and all other things that fall under the heading of: ADULTING.

At the end of the day, we often find the cry of our heart is for PEACE!!!

Thankfully, GOD makes this peace readily available to us. In fact, Philippians 4:7 mentions a peace that passes all of our understanding. The Complete Jewish Bible puts it like this:

“(Then) God’s shalom, passing all understanding, will keep your hearts and minds safe in union with the Messiah Yeshua.” (Jesus)

WHAT IS SHALOM?

But what exactly is shalom? You may have heard it used as a greeting, the same way that “hello” or “good-bye” is used. Oftentimes, it is used as a replacement for “peace” as in the above verse. But is there more to it than that? After all, when looking at words in the Hebrew language, one must consider all the possibilities of its meaning, which is often multi-layered.

Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance (#7965) states that “shalom” means: completeness, wholeness, health, peace, welfare, safety, soundness, tranquility, prosperity, perfectness, fullness, rest, harmony, the absence of agitation or discord.

Shalom comes from the root verb “shalam” (#7999 in the Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance). Some of the meanings listed for shalam are: safe, well, happy, friendly; health, prosperity, and peace.

There are 237 instances, in the Bible, where “shalom” is mentioned. The fact that it is mentioned so often tells us that it is important to God. Anything that is important to the heart of our Father God is worth paying attention to.

Clearly, shalom is so much more than just a greeting or a general state of peace. It is a blessing of health, wholeness and prosperity in every area of our lives: in a health sense, an emotional sense, a financial sense, a relational sense, a spiritual sense – everything!

Perhaps we could say that shalom is a concept that is holistic in nature. If you prefer, we could even say that shalom is a concept that is “whole-istic” as it is a blessing that ought to affect every area of our whole lives.

The thought that we should have shalom in every area of our lives may sound, at first, a bit overwhelming. After all, how does one even begin to go about achieving this?

Do we, first, have to live a life of perfection and then shalom will appear? Rather than thinking of shalom as a state of being that we must work to achieve, perhaps we should think of it as a force that we can choose to receive and lean into – a tangible force that we can move, flow and live in when we embrace the Creator’s ancient Ways.

WHERE DOES SHALOM COME FROM?

“And God, the source of shalom, will soon crush the Adversary under your feet. The grace of our Lord Yeshua (Jesus) be with you.” – Romans 16:20 (CJB)

In the above verse, we see that God, Himself, is the Author of shalom. Yes, He alone is the Source of shalom. The amount of counterfeit offers of peace, vying for our attention, are numerous.

Many good, well meaning people have been sucked into false religion, and ideologies, due to the “promises” of peace and enlightenment. Of course, the enemy of our souls sprinkles a bit of truth into every lie. This causes us to put our defenses down and sometimes we overlook the red flags of warning. Before long, we will find that we have gone way off course – down a road that is far from Creator’s Ways.

We must use discernment in these matters and research the root – the originalsource – behind such non-biblical (often mystical) beliefs. As hard as we may try, peace cannot be conjured up or manufactured by counterfeit religion. Even satan has been known to masquerade as an “angel of light” (2 Corinthians 11:14-15).

The truth is: we cannot think, medicate, or meditate ourselves into a state of shalom. It comes from Creator God alone!

PRACTICAL WAYS TO FLOW IN SHALOM

If you currently find yourself in a season where shalom seems out of reach or if you simply desire more of this powerful blessing, from GOD, below I have listed some practical ideas to consider:

1. Start your day with Creator God. Regardless of the current season you may find yourself in, your ABBA Father wants to spend time with you. He delights in you and is waiting for you to come to Him, everyday. Never underestimate the power of time spent in prayer, praise and in the Word.

2. Trust in Creator God. We were not designed to carry burdens. Lay them down at your ABBA’s feet, trusting Him to care for your every need.

3. Get rid of the old. Any old thought patterns, behaviors, or habits that don’t line up with GOD’s ways need to be kicked to the curb. Getting rid of the old junk opens up more room for the better things that your ABBA Father has planned for you.

4. Unplug. Spend more time with loved ones and nature…and less with tech.

Shalom is not an ethereal idea. It is tangible and something that we all can live, and flow, in. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your healing journey. Shalom!
